When I picked up this album, I knew very little about Panic! At The Disco, I had heard good things and it went on sale, so I took a chance. I continue to be completely blown away by this album. The most surprising thing to me is how it didn't do a lot better in the charts than it actually did. In my mind, the first single from this album, "The Ballad of Mona Lisa," is one of four songs that should have been top ten singles. "Let's Kill Tonight" is a great club song. "Ready to Go (Get Out of My Mind)," is an excellent pop song, and "Memories" is a truly great rock song.
The versatility of this band is phenomenal. "Nearly Witches" is a fun, art-rock song, utilizing a French-singing children's choir great tonal changes. Unlike most art song, however, it doesn't take itself too seriously.
This album really took me by surprise. Brendon Urie and Fallon Weekes took the band in a more pop-friendly direction after the departure of several band members, and the result had been truly great. They aren't afraid to make some of the artistic statements as their previous albums had done, but they have embraced pop melodies and structure in a way that both brings them into the world of pop and makes them stand out all at once. This is a true gem, if you have gotten to the point of reading reviews to help you decide if you want to get it, then there will definitely be at least something you will love here, if not the whole, amazing album.

Panic! At The Disco's first album since losing half of the members and getting their "!" back is an unqualified success. Many fans, myself included, were somewhat disappointed with their last album "Pretty.Odd" as it changed nearly everything that made their debut such a breath of fresh air. However, "Vices & Virtues" shows Panic! back at the top of their game and doing what they do best--writing quirky excellently constructed pop songs with a baroque twist. Look no further than lead single "The Ballad of Mona LIsa" for an exercise in perfect song-writing. The album continues faultless all the way through 10 tracks of the highest quality that each have their own identity. No two songs sound alike from the fast-paced synths and hand-claps of "Let's Kill Tonight" to the soft and beautiful "Always" to the album highlight "The Calendar" with it's powerful and catchy chorus. Panic! At The Disco have risen again to the top of the pop-music pack with "Vices & Virtues" and I can't wait to see what they come up with next. One of the best albums of 2011.
I have to say that this is Panic at the Disco's finest album to date. I cannot stop playing these songs on my iPod computer, or car. The lyrics are like nothing I've heard before. If you like music videos, I suggest looking up The Ballad of Mona Lisa. It's pretty remarkable to see the detail that this band puts into constructing not only a song but the attention to detail in their music videos as well.
5/5 in all categories. And as the reviewer said if you don't already have The Ballad of Mona Lisa I also suggest getting it.
