Brand new 2017 release finds Cheap Trick sounding like their classic 70's sound. They have the same energy in their songs like the Dream Police era. Although their songs don't have the same catchy hooks as back then, it is still a noteworthy release. Robin Zander sings very well and delivers strong vocals in all of the songs. Rick Nielsen is also very energized playing his guitar as if he were 40 years younger. It has been many years since Bun E. Carlos left or was kicked out of the band. His replacement has learned to copy his style and sounds very similar. The first 4 songs are very energetic, especially Radio Lover, although they kind of sound similar. It is until tune #5, Lolita, that we hear their other familiar sounds with a catchy pop tune, with synth sounds. Brand New Name... is another rocker where Zander is singing his voice off. Floating Down is a ballad with the familiar Cheap Trick style. Listen To Me picks things up again with yet another rock tune. The Rest Of My Life is a very good ballad in this CD. The last 3 tunes are bonus songs in this Deluxe Set. Blackberry Way is a blend of The Beatles with a James Bond soundtrack sound. The closing song If You Still Want My Love is another Beatles influenced song and probably the best of the CD.
