Produced by Todd Rundgren, this third album by Michigan's Grand Funk Railroad maynot be their heaviest, but it flat out is a slice of Rock and Roll history and Heaven. The rhythm section that formerly drove the band forward was backed off a bit in favor of some in your face guitar and it worked swimmingly. The title cut, ”We're An American Band” is an instanly recognizable classic rock iconic hit. The song was based upon the experiences of the band on the road and hinted at, truth be told even intimated a few true tales. Interestingly this song was sung by drummer Don Brewer, as was another great track as well as "Walk Like A Man" . There are also great tracks like "Creepin'", whose, well, kinda' creepy opening keyboard run sets up an startling feeling of fatalism, and "The Railroad", a brooding sentiment of life in Americana. “Stop Lookin Back” is another reason to purchase this worthy example of good old American good times and great music.
