Where did all the love go? Plenty of it left for this song! "Where Did All the Love Go?" was the second single released from Kasabian's genius album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. If you're not familiar with this British rock band here's a crash course... Kasabian = singer Tom Meighan + songwriter Sergio Pizzorno + pure brilliance. Now go listen to West Ryder and its singles.
"Where Did All the Love Go" starts off like it's going to be a really tough song ("Ever took a punch in the rib cage sonny / ever met a soul who had no shrine") but quickly turns in a hand-clapping anticrime violence protest song that could have come straight out of a 1960s peace movement. With, as always, that modern twist that makes Kasabian fascinating to me. Like most of their tracks this one keeps up a completely danceable beat, strong bass line, and a relevant message in the lyrics. The album's Eastern flair continues through this song as well.
Hate to say it but I'm giving four stars to this single because I don't like the B-side. I'm not a fan of remixes anyway and especially when I'm not too crazy about the song to begin with. "Vlad the Impaler" is okay, not a fave of mine, but skip the Zane Lowe remix and listen to the original.
