In anticipation of their new album coming out soon, I wanted to write a review of Lost in the Trees brilliant album, " A Church That Fits Our Needs." For even a casual fan, the theme of the record; the suicide death of frontman Ari Picker's mother, may seem disconcerting However, the sheer beauty and feeling put in to this work is quite inspiring and emotional.
The album contains two "moments," basically skits that somehow ambiguously fit into the overall theme, but when the music kicks in with "Neither Here Nor There,"' get ready for Ari's sweet as honey voice and the orchestral strings and operatic backup singer, my mind was/is blown. As well as with track 3, "Red," the songs build to a wonderful crescendo, utilizing the above mentioned skills as well as unpredictable and hypnotizing percussion.
It's difficult to pinpoint any particular song, because as with many great albums, "A Church..."'is a wonderful sum of it's individual parts. Filled with incredible, tender and soaring lush arrangements, that I never seem to tire of. This album is an absolute masterpiece, and I recommend it highly, as well as look forward to future releases and perhaps seeing them live. Give this a shot.
