Weak release from some of the best musicians out there. Mr. Big has had some very good releases like "Lean Into It" and "Bump Ahead", and one expects a good album from musicians of their caliber. "Defying Gravity (2017) is an album received with much expectancy, but it did not deliver what was expected. Eric Martin's voice sounds very good, Paul Gilbert (guitar) and Billy Sheehan (bass) are in perfect playing form, but the songs are not memorable. The songs lack strong melodies and choruses. There are some interesting instrumental musical passages in a few songs, but the rest of the structure is weak and thus the song falls apart. It seems that they needed more time to sit and write songs or just to jam and get creative. The sound mix is not so crisp which also affects the album to be more enjoyable. Even the album cover lacks a better presentation. The best tunes are "Defying Gravity", their classic sounding "Everybody Needs A Little Trouble", and "Forever And Back". Hopefully their next album will be better.
