Major Lazer's latest album "Free The Universe" has become one of my favourites very quickly. For the uninitiated, Major Lazer is a project from DJ producer Diplo, originally he worked with DJ Switch although more recently he has begun working with DJ's Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. "Free The Universe" is the second album Major Lazer album and has predominantly jamaican reggae/dancehall feel to it. End to end, it is a great listen and there are some great artists who pop in for a cameo (Shaggy, Wyclef, Santigold, Flux Pavilion, Tyga and Peaches just to name a few). Stand outs for me were "You're no good" which features Santigold, Vybz Kartel, Danielle Haim and Yasmin and is great track with a touch of that dancehall style. "Get Free" featuring Amber from Dirty Projectors has a laid back reggae beat and great vocals. "Jah No Partial" features Flux Pavilion and is an amazing cross between an old school reggae Johnny Osbourne sample and a new school Flux Pavillion Dub Step beat. Other stand outs were "Scare Me" with Peaches and Timberlee, "Jessica" with Ezra Koenig, and "Bubble Butt" with Bruno Mars, Tyga and Mystic. That being said every other track holds the album together like glue to make a great listening experience! Definitely worth getting!
