With "The Color Spectrum", The Dear Hunter have cemented themselves as the finest and most diverse band making music today. Each track included in this release has a very distinct sound that sets it apart from every other song in the collection. The album kicks off with the uncharacteristically angry "Filth & Squalor", possibly the most vitriolic The Dear Hunter have ever sounded while dabbling in new found electronic and industrial influences. On the opposite side of the sonic spectrum is the track "She's Always Singing", which is a sweet and uplifting song which will put a smile on all but the most jaded of listeners. The highlight of the album could be different for anybody depending on tastes, but more than anything the bombastic and powerful song "Home" hits very hard with it's soaring chorus and massive bridge. There is not a weak song in all of the collection, let alone this sampler album. Regardless, "The Color Spectrum" is my personal favorite album of the year and favorite album in years for that matter. Recommended to everybody.
