Remember those late summer days you spent playing down by the old lake with your kite? If you don’t this album is sure to jog your memory. Sam Beams soothing vocals put together with slow going melt in your mouth, finger-picking guitar and drum pieces make a fantastic album if you’re in to the folk scene. The album is very diverse, quoted as venturing into such musical realms as West African with a touch of blues.
Each song seems to be able to create images and scenes down to the last detail with bursting emotion. It’s worth a listen through 2 or 3 times to appreciate the depth that Sam offers and suggests. One of the most emotional and memorable tracks entitled: “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” had me listening over and over, as I am sure it will other listeners.
If you enjoyed Iron & Wine’s sound on the previous or later albums then you’ll love this, it has diversified slightly from the original but it’s a deep and rich listen.
If you enjoy this album and lime Iron & Wine MP3 Caprice have recently put up a rare B-sides and rarities compilation of Iron & wine entitled “Around the Well” (How kind of them!)
