I think that this is the best Pheonix album. This album has thier most infectious and catchy writing to date. It also was ahead of its time in some respects because it predicted the wave of sythn based alternative rock that would come within the next few years. I also feel like this album even had a little bit of the ingredients of what would later evolve into chillwave. I wouldn't say that this is chillwave in and of itself but I could easily see this as a point of inspiration for alot of muscisians.
This album sounds like what would happen if the strokes made dance pop music. There honestly isn't a single track on this album that isn't incredibly blissful and energetic. its is like the musical equivalent of a sugar rush. You feel so full of energy while listening even though it has to eventually come to an end.
The production on this album was also pretty amazing and make the album sound full and yet hollow all at once. The layers of synth really give this album so much of its character and are essentially the backbone of this album. And the melodies are full of epic leaps and soaring high notes. There is so much drama in a musical sense because the tension and release on this album is pretty spot on and really give the album the emotional weight it carries. This album has also aged incredibly well given that it came out close to 10 years ago. And I feel like it is a gem because this album the perfect mix of the various sounds that Pheonix has dables in throughout thier carreer. Alot of what they have done before and after this does not compare to what they created on this album. Even though there other albums are by no means bad, this is by far thier most accuse able and relatable album.

Hooky choruses and simple guitar riffs, singing whose tone resembles blithely yelling down the street, and tight backbeats. Typical of many indie rock bands, phoenix included. Well, except that they’re French. Oh, and they are possibly the best synergy of the best elements of the indie rock scene today.
They are The Shins without the underlying sorrow and the slower acoustic tracks. They are The Strokes without the guitar solos, distorted vocals, and unpleasant attitudes. They are Franz Ferdinand without the sexuality. Yet they are not blandly reasserting a genre’s validity; Phoenix have a unique sound to work with, an almost shy audacity. And they may just be the band that bubbles the scene to the surface from the depths of underground pretention.
On Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, the fourth album from this young band, we don’t hear any new ground broken. There is nothing done on this album that hasn’t been done before. But it’s not the breaking of conventions that makes Phoenix noteworthy; rather it’s the finesse of those conventions implemented in a way that is accessible, entertaining, and yet still impressive. It is this point that makes Phoenix uniquely suited to straddle the indie scene and the mainstream charts: While they are unabashedly pop-heavy, their synthesized rock sound captivates the ear with honesty. They don’t lie to the listener to be likable, which in itself makes them all the more worth listening to in the first place.

Unfortunately Phoenix have found themselves within the lesser known artists of today. 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' is the fourth album from the alternative French group, the album was recorded in Paris by Cassius's Philippe Zdar which is a confident start. When listening to any Phoenix album it is evident (as they have mentioned before) they wish to create and follow their own musical path, they hold very close friendships with the members of Daft Punk which is a nugget of fortune for any band or artist. Whether the Daft Punk boys have had any influences or not may not be known, but one thing that is undeniable is how rewarding the album is, the more you listen the more detailed and intense each piece seems to become. The album starts off in a brilliant abruptness - as much as I do enjoy one, there is no messing around with instrumental rainbow of technopop or inspirational dramatic voice overs. There is a high energy positivity about every track that's addictive with energy in a 'I could could be a French Alternative rock group!' kind of way. All aspirations aside though, this album is one of the unknown greats so get yourself a copy because it does not disappoint.

One of 2009s top albums, agree many lists, this is an outstanding album of college/indie music. Too bad it will be pigeon-holed into these genres, as many listeners will miss one of today's great, inspired rock bands. Buy it, you will return to it again and again.
