On their 13'th release, just in time for their 30'th anniversary, Duran Duran take a look back while moving forward. Many a review points out that this is their best work since 'Rio", but there is much more going on.
First of all, the release of this album was highly anticipated due to the Mark Ronson production. Even though, Ronson is on board, you won't hear a Daptone horn on this record. However, the most notable Ronson 'fingerprint' is the Rap /verse / chorus on the track 'safe' provided by Ana Matronic (Scissor Sisters). Also, speaking of guest vocalists, check out the track featuring Kelis, though her role in the song is more like a newscaster than a vocalist.
Taking a look back, these songs have more of a synthesizer texture like their first two albums (a few songs remind me of 'Girls on film'), but the band is moving forward by embracing new producers and welcoming new guest artists.
At only 9 tracks, this album may be a bit 'brief', but when the physical release comes out in Feb. 2011; three more tracks are to follow.
