Megadeth tore up the metal scene with their 1985 debut Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good! The album is a sonic assault from start to finish fueled by an angry Dave Mustaine who had just been removed from Metallica and was determined to play harder and faster. The album showcases Megadeth in their rawest and most unpolished sound that would never really be heard again on subsequent releases, making it stand out as something unique in their catalog. The album highlights include the title track Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good! The track sort of bounces along in the versus until capping off with a repetitive but effective closing statement. Rattlehead kicks off with a slithery riff that leads to some of the fastest and thrashiest the album has to offer.Mechanix is the infamous song that is also Metallica's The Four Horseman, albeit with reworked lyrics. These are the lyrics Dave meant for the song and although i prefer the lyrics to The Four Horseman, there's no denying Dave sings this track as though it was for his life. Regardless of which track you like more, this is it's purest form. Due to legal problems Dave was forced to censor the cover of These Boots on the remastered release with much of the track being bleeped out resulting in this being the one blight on the album. A lot of fans tend to hate on the Megadeth remasters except for this one. I haven't heard anyone say that this album hasn't benefitted from the remaster. Thanks to the care Dave took with it, the album still sounds really good today. This is propably not the place for a casual Megadeth fan to start but if you wanna hear the band's first steps this is the beginning.
After being fired from Metallica, Dave Mustaine started his own band with a friend and 2 jazz players. They started the band Megadeth, who subsequently released their debut, "Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!" It was an attempt to try to be faster and badder than Metallica, but they did not try to work on songwriting ability here.
Last Rites/Loved to Deth: The only song on the album that I like. Has a cool piano part from Beethoven (Last Rites), which goes into a schizophrenic song. The only reason why I like this song is because of the piano intro, and that's it. Almost every song on the album sounds the same as Loved to Deth. 9/10
Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!: Not as schizophrenic, but still too insane to be Megadeth. 8/10
The Skull Beneath the Skin: Not schizophrenic at all, but still too noisy. 8/10
Rattlehead: See what I said about Loved to Deth. 7/10
Chosen Ones: Better, but still kind of crappy as far as songwriting. 8.5/10
Looking Down the Cross: See "Chosen Ones". 8.5/10
Mechanix: The worst song on the album, too fast. The Four Horsemen from Metallica's Kill 'Em All was much better. 5/10
These Boots: Although it uses their drummer's jazz skills well, a feud with the original songwriter bleeped out most of the lyrics, not just the dirty ones. The worst song on the entire album. 0/10
