I found Circa Survive's latest (and greatest) album a little dissatisfying upon my first few listens. It lacked the immediate catchiness that pervaded their last album, 2010's Blue Sky Noise, and was much more challenging melodically than that album. However, with every truly great album I found that the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated its eccentricities and mood. It is a much darker and more difficult to penetrate album than anything Circa Survive have done, and yet it is their most rewarding to listen to over and over again. Circa Survive have once again released an album of the year contender and have filled nearly an hour with hugely memorable tracks like "The Lottery", "Sharp Practice", and the fascinating and varied "Birth of the Economic Hit Man". Everybody will find something to love on this, Anthony Green gives the best vocal performance of the year, and there is truly no better rock band on the scene right now than Circa Survive. Buy it or regret your entire life.
