St. Vincent's 2011 LP, "Strange Mercy" is such a great record that it was difficult for me to imagine how she would top it or at least match it. But, Annie Clark never ceases to impress and her new self-titled LP, "St. Vincent" is no exception. Every track is written and produced with the same mastery as before, if not even sounding more firmly planted and stronger than before. She manages to take such a-typical rock and pop lyricism and make it incredibly infectious. Her guitar work remains fantastic. There is not a single track on the album that I don't enjoy. Certainly one of my favorite albums of the year thus far.
The new self titled album from St. Vincent is, for me, such an unexpected pleasure. Every song on this album is well produced, cool lyrics and fantastic catchy melodies. With every album St. Vincent has released, she has experienced new ways in music, while her albums was getting weirder and weirder, but that is also what makes her music so unique and amazing. With this album she manage to be creative in new ways, but still holds the form of St. Vincent's music, that makes her so fantastic. The last song, Severed Crossed Fingers is easily one of the best songs i have ever heard, lyrically. While other songs like Rattlesnake, Birth In Reverse, Regret and I Prefer Your Love are among my favourites on the album. These songs, especially has an extremely groovy guitar riffs that characterises them and makes them so catchy. My previously favourite album was Actor by St. Vincent, but in short time i think this album will beat it, it's a masterpiece! It's clear to see where her project with David Byrne have taken her, musically. He and their project, Love This Giant (the album) has really had a big influence on this album. This can hears on songs like I Prefer Your Love, Every tear Disappears and Bring Me Your Loves. Also very well received by many critics.
